Founded in 2021, Multitudes co-op has been a collaborator and partner to a number of grassroots organisations and groups within the movement-building ecosystem in the UK and internationally. Over the last five years, just as the socio-geo-political and economic climate has changed (and worsened), internally at the co-op we have been undergoing our own period of change and evolution. Having done this work powered mostly by grit, determination, and passion - as is the story of so many Black-led organisations in the UK and internationally - we’re now entering a new phase at the co-op and a new chapter in our organisational story. As we shift towards being a programme-led organisation, focusing on four interconnected programmes (Open Movements; Sites of Resistance; Archiving; and building a Black Feminist Community School of Technology), you’ll notice some changes from us. Namely, we have taken the decision to close our Studio arm of work in its current form, at least for now, and pivot towards focusing more on experimentation, movement infrastructure building, and actioning liberatory practice. In many ways, this feels like a natural progression as we continue to seek to understand what our communities need and how we might help to build it.
